A Week of Hands on Learning and Creativity! 🌟
It has been a fantastic week of hands-on, active learning across the academy! Emphasising our commitment to experiential education, our students have been diving into practical, engaging lessons that build both academic knowledge and essential life skills.
🍳Mastering Life Skills in the Kitchen
Our food tech and culinary sessions have been a massive success this week. Students have been developing their independence and cooking techniques with some brilliant hands-on practice. We saw excellent focus as one student carefully chopped garlic and prepared ingredients. The stove was also busy, with another student demonstrating great safety and technique while cooking chicken and onions in a frying pan. Even our younger pupils got involved in healthy eating, practicing their fine motor skills by safely chopping bananas and mangoes to follow a tropical fruit salad recipe
Interactive and Engaging Academics 📚
Inside the classroom, our students have been tackling their academic subjects with creativity and teamwork.
-
Students demonstrated great focus while collaborating and working through complex math worksheets together.
-
To make learning ratios more dynamic, one student solved mathematical problems directly on their desk using a dry-erase marker before transferring their answers into their books.
-
A Pathway English lessons featured extensive collaborative brainstorming; students filled the whiteboard with fantastic descriptive vocabulary, exploring metaphors, adjectives, and fronted adverbials based on a visual prompt.
-
In Primary, technology brought a grammar lessons to life, with students eagerly participating in an interactive “hit the mole” game on the digital whiteboard to identify correct phrases.
🎨 Getting Creative and Exploring the Outdoors 🌳
We always encourage our students to express themselves and connect with the world around them.
-
The craft tables were busy with tactile learning, as students in Primary used clay to sculpt beautiful, textured birdsnests and creative structures.
-
In KS4, we saw some fantastic out-of-the-box thinking in art, where a student recreated a quirky photograph of a forklift moving giant spaghetti using mixed media, including string and paper cutouts.
-
Finally, we took our learning outside! Students wrapped up warmly to explore the environment, engaging with nature and examining the soil to worm charm as a part of Forest Schools.
We are incredibly proud of the hard work, creativity, and enthusiasm our students have shown this week. Keep up the amazing effort #TeamSAAM!👏🌟
